Köttbullar with cream sauce and mashed potatoes

Hej kompisar is how they say “Hello friends” in Sweden. Because with this recipe it's Nordic. The Swedish national dish Köttbullar is now also available as a vegan version. Classically, there is a hearty cream sauce and mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Cream sauce
  • 40g vegan butter
  • 40g flour
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 300ml vegetable broth
  • 250ml oat cream
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • Spices: salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, nutmeg
Mashed potatoes
  • 800g floury potatoes
  • 200ml plant-based milk
  • 30g vegan butter
  • Spices: salt, pepper, nutmeg

preparation

Mashed potatoes & Köttbullar
  • Easy To Mix Köttbullar mix according to instructions and cool.
  • Peel and quarter the potatoes. Cook in salted water for about 25 minutes.
  • When they are cooked, put them in a bowl and mash them with a potato masher.
  • Heat the milk, add it to the potatoes and stir. Then add the butter and spices and stir everything well.
Cream sauce
  • For the roux, melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour. Stir so that there are no lumps.
  • Then stir in the vegetable broth and mustard. Add cream and soy sauce, stir in and season with spices.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little more vegetable stock.
  • Now just fry the Köttbullar well and when they are crispy, add the cream sauce to the pan and bring to the boil again. Serve everything together on one plate.
