Our recipe idea for September

Oktoberfest begins in September and we have veganized classic Oktoberfest recipes for you. There is something for every taste here - you are spoiled for choice between: a hearty breakfast roll , a spicy sausage salad , a delicious Oktoberfest hot dog , a light pretzel salad , a Bavarian burger or quick bratwurst bites .

Nevertheless, we would like to introduce you to two seasonal foods in more detail: quinces and the popular Hokkaido pumpkin.
Quinces are closely related to apples and contain a lot of vitamin C and valuable minerals such as potassium. The stone fruit is also used as a natural remedy. They help with stomach and intestinal problems, colds and inflammation. Quinces are a very good choice to support your daily fiber and mineral needs.

The Hokkaido impresses with its high nutrient density as it contains less water compared to other types of pumpkin. In addition, the Hokkaido is low in fat and rich in vitamins. The strong color comes from the beta-carotene it contains. Beta-carotoin has anti-inflammatory antioxidants, which in turn are important for cell protection and are also converted into vitamin A by the body. Vitamin A is good for eyesight, hair and skin. PS: Most of the beta-carotene is in the peel, so it's best to eat it too.

Seasonal products in September

In the transition month of September, the summer product variety changes to autumnal foods: pumpkins, quinces and nuts. The most popular pumpkins of the season are Hokkaido, nutmeg, butternut and spaghetti squash. These pumpkin varieties differ in color, size, shape and taste.

Pumpkins can be used in many different ways in the kitchen. For example, you can puree it as a classic pumpkin soup and use it in delicious curries or vegetable stir-fries. They also taste great roasted as a side dish or are suitable as a topping for a tarte flambée. Here's a little tip to help you cut and process large pumpkins better: Put them in the oven at around 150 degrees.

In addition to pumpkins, the season of nuts also begins in September: hazelnuts, walnuts and chestnuts. Chestnuts have a low fat content and are also lower in calories than other nuts. You can also find them in the great outdoors. For example, the nuts taste particularly good in soups or diced as a side dish.

In addition to the last fruits of summer, there are also delicious apples, pears, plums, grapes and quinces in September. Great muesli, porridge and cake recipes come to mind again. In any case, it's great that we're home to so many fruits and vegetables - that makes every season very special from a culinary perspective.
